A-level results day - good luck

17 August 2016

Speaking ahead of A-level results day, a spokesperson for the Russell Group of Universities, said:

“Good luck to everyone getting their results.

“Going to university gives students the opportunity to realise their potential and can act as a springboard to a successful career. We hope many of those getting their results tomorrow will have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of a good university education.

“For those students who may have done better than expected, or for highly-qualified students who may have narrowly missed out on their first choice, some Russell Group universities may have places available. We encourage those students to get in touch with UCAS to see whether there may be places available to them.

“Our institutions work hard to spread the word that with the right grades in the right subjects a place at a Russell Group university is well within reach. High-quality information, advice and guidance, including on writing personal statements, is essential to make sure that every talented and able student is given the right tools to meet their potential.”

Notes to Editors

  1. For information about Clearing and Adjustment places at our universities students should visit universities' websites or go to the UCAS website where more information for students is available - https://www.ucas.com/ucas/undergraduate/apply-and-track/results/who-contact
  2. Students can also speak directly to a UCAS expert on Twitter or Facebook. Experienced careers advisers are also ready to discuss the range of options open to students on the Exam Results Helpline, which is funded by the Department for Education, on 0808 100 8000.
  3. Our guide Informed Choices, first published in 2011, includes advice on the best subject combinations for a wide range of university courses as well as advice on the best choices for students if they don’t know what they want to study after school and need to keep their options open.
  4. Tuition fees do not have to be paid up-front by students. In England loans and bursaries are available to cover costs and graduates only repay their loans when they are earning a good salary (of at least £21,000 a year) and even then they will only pay back a small proportion of their income (9%) above £21,000. For more information go to www.gov.uk/repaying-your-student-loan/overview.
  5. According to the latest date from HESA around 80% of leavers in employment and with a first degree from a Russell Group university went directly into professional employment compared to the UK average of 71% and 68% for non-Russell Group universities.
