EU migration review
27 July 2017
Commenting on the announcement that the Migration Advisory Committee is set to examine migration from the EU, Russell Group head of policy Sarah Stevens said:
“Russell Group universities are world leaders in teaching and research. EU staff and students have played a huge role in this UK success story.
“Around one third of academic staff working in strategically important subjects like maths and modern foreign languages at our universities are from other EU member states. The same is true for other disciplines too. Every student at every Russell Group university will have benefitted in some way from the work of an EU national.
“We value our European colleagues and want them to stay after the UK leaves the EU.
“This review is necessary and we need clarity as soon as possible to help universities and individuals plan for the future. We welcome the Home Secretary’s assurance that there will be no Brexit cliff edge and look forward to making the case for an immigration system that helps universities recruit and retain the best global talent.”
