Funding for bioscience
11 April 2017
The Russell Group has commented on funding for bioscience, including £29 million for the Roslin Institute, part of the University of Edinburgh.
Commenting on the announcement, Russell Group Head of Policy Jessica Cole, said:
“Supporting the UK’s science base will be fundamental to building a strong economy as we leave the European Union. Backing sectors like bioscience and investing in basic research will provide strong foundations for growth. It will create high skilled jobs and makes a real difference to people’s lives.
“If we want the UK to emerge from the Brexit process as an outward-looking, global trading power then we need to invest in our strongest sectors. Edinburgh and other Russell Group universities have helped the UK become a world-leader in science. Higher education and research will need to be a big part of the industrial strategy. This funding for bioscience is a welcome start.”
