HEFCE Grant Letter 2017
23 February 2017
Commenting on the publication of the HEFCE Grant Letter Acting-Director of the Russell Group, Dr Tim Bradshaw said:
The Government has put the UK’s strengths in science, research and innovation at the core of the new Industrial Strategy. Ensuring our universities are properly funded is essential to helping deliver the Government’s ambitions.
Reiterating a commitment to the dual support system and emphasising the importance of quality-related ‘QR’ research funding are particularly welcome. This funding is essential to allow universities flexibility to explore new opportunities and address emerging challenges in the most efficient and effective way.
It is reassuring, in light of Brexit, that the Government continues to make positive statements around the crucial contribution made by overseas staff and students who are so vital to our universities. We will continue to work with Government to support them to achieve the aim of securing the best possible deal for HE providers in the EU negotiations.
Russell Group universities are committed to facilitating social mobility and make a positive impact on over 2,000 schools across the UK every year. They are already investing in supporting and safeguarding students; providing services to address mental health needs and taking robust action against violence, sexual harassment and hate crimes.
