Universities at the heart of a successful industrial strategy

Responding to the Industrial Strategy Green Paper Jessica Cole, Head of Policy at the Russell Group, said:

“Universities are at the heart of the industrial strategy. From training the next generation to delivering cutting edge research and helping companies innovate and grow, their contribution is invaluable.

“Russell Group universities stand ready and able to support the Government in delivering an ambitious and successful industrial strategy - both in their own right and as high value assets for the UK underpinning every other sector.

“They provide the academic infrastructure that supports so many of Britain’s other success stories and are fundamental to building a high skill, high wage economy.

“The best way for us to become a global trading power outside of the EU is to build on the UK’s world leading science and research base.

“If we are to truly exploit the UK’s ability to deliver the industrial strategy then we need a good outcome for science and research in the Brexit negotiations and an immigration system that actively supports universities in attracting, recruiting and retaining talented staff and students.”
