Response to HEPI - reforming BTECS
23 February 2017
Commenting on HEPI’s new report on reforming BTECs, Russell Group head of policy Sarah Stevens said:
The last thing anyone wants is for capable students to be left struggling through no fault of their own because they don’t have the right study experience or get the right advice. This is why our Informed Choices guide advises people who are considering BTECs to think about what this might mean for their higher education options.
A number of Russell Group universities are already working with further education colleges on how curriculum changes might help learners with these qualifications and are putting support in place to help those entering with BTECs to adjust to studying in a different environment.
We want talented students to have the chance to apply and to thrive at our institutions, regardless of their background. This is why Russell Group members will spend more than £250m in England alone on measures to help widen participation this year.
