Russell Group comment on HEPI report on Brexit and international students
12 January 2017
Responding to HEPI’s new report on universities and Brexit, Director General of the Russell Group, Dr Wendy Piatt, said:
The UK is home to world-leading universities and a higher education sector that is an international success story. EU and international staff and students are fundamental to this success.
Ensuring universities can attract the highly-qualified academics and students that the UK needs must be a Brexit priority for the Government – as the HEPI report demonstrates.
The Government has made clear that they want the UK to remain open for business and maintaining a welcome to international students would potentially add billions of pounds to the economy. Removing international students from immigration figures would help demonstrate that we will always remain open to innovation and collaboration.
