Statement on TEF technical consultation response

Commenting on the TEF Consultation response, Dr Wendy Piatt, Director General of the Russell Group said:

“We are reassured that the Government has listened to some of the concerns we raised during the TEF technical consultation process. On issues such as benchmarking and the weighting of specific metrics we are pleased to see the TEF is moving in the right direction. 

“Developing a robust TEF that is truly reflective of the UK’s excellent higher education system will take time. The Government’s willingness to work collaboratively with universities to shape the TEF is welcome but this may require more time. So we have asked the Government to develop the system through an extended pilot period to create a framework that adds value and assesses teaching fairly and accurately without adding to the regulatory burden.”
