Peter Mathieson
Professor Sir Peter Mathieson is the University of Edinburgh’s 35th Principal and Vice-Chancellor.

Peter joined the University in February 2018. Prior to that, he was President of the University of Hong Kong.  A physician by training, he had a distinguished career in clinical medicine, teaching and research before moving into university leadership.  Peter has led the introduction of a sector-leading student support model, as well as significant investments in student facilities.  He oversaw the Research Excellence Framework 2021 submission, reaffirming the University’s position as fourth in the UK for quality and breadth of research.  In 2023, Peter received a knighthood for services to higher education.
