10/10 offers a series of tailored events and opportunities that support students to find community, build belonging and develop confidence in their place at the University of Manchester.

Running since 2019, the 10/10 scheme aims to generate an improved sense of student belonging and community; promoting engagement with academic skills workshops and tools, employability support and personal development.

Students can engage in the programme as much or as little as they like depending on their need and focus. The university works with a cohort of over around 1,700 students each academic year.

Student feedback from the 10/10 scheme, showed participants believed seeing more Black leaders within their student body would prove inspirational and give them more confidence that their student voice is represented and heard across the institution. In response, the university launched a Black Leadership Programme (BLP) in 2023.

As part of the scheme, up to 40 Black students per calendar year are provided with group coaching, academic masterclasses, and career leadership skills development workshops and have access to a work experience bursary for voluntary positions.

The programmes goal is to provide those students with more confidence and self-efficacy in both their academic and personal lives to help them pursue their educational and career aspirations.

Both 10/10 and the BLP are programmes that demonstrate effective cross institutional delivery and support for a high priority student community. Led by Manchester’s Access and Success teams, the schemes also draw on input and delivery from the Careers service, our University Library Team, the University of Manchester Students’ Union, and external specialist coaching providers.
