Universities are critical partners in the fight to protect the NHS
A new briefing from the Russell Group calls for universities to be at the heart of workplace planning
The University of Birmingham leads the InnovateUK-funded West Midlands Health Tech Innovation Accelerator (WMHTIA) to drive health tech innovation that will address health inequalities towards UK market success. Since October 2023, we have worked with other universities, industry partners such as Medilink Midlands and venture capital firms such as Plug and Play, and government-funded catapults, to bring in £28.4 million co-investment, offer intensive, bespoke development support for businesses and create 100 new jobs.
In 2025, the Precision Health Technologies Accelerator (PHTA), a business innovation facility, will open in the flagship Birmingham Health Innovation Campus (BHIC) building.
Offering a single-entry point to the clinical-academic research and development ecosystem of Birmingham Health Partners, PHTA will support the growth of the sector, accelerating the translation of healthcare treatments and technologies from early development to real life application.
