Queen Mary Innovation (QMI) is a technology transfer company wholly owned by Queen Mary University of London. QMI has entered into over 400 IP agreements returning over £20 million to Queen Mary from commercialisation activities

QMI has attracted more than £200 million of external investment and has a strategic focus on the creation of new sustainable spinout companies, like AeroSolar.

Founded by Professor Joe Briscoe, Professor of Energy Materials and Devices at Queen Mary University of London, AeroSolar is helping improve and optimise the production and operation of perovskite solar technology through a new aerosol-based treatment, which can make these new solar cells an even more affordable and efficient option. The potential of this new manufacturing method is enormous – these new innovations mean low-cost, high-efficiency solar power can enable the continued progress of renewable energy for a more sustainable future.

As Professor Joe Briscoe has said, "Solar power has disrupted the future of renewable energy. As photovoltaic technology blazes a trail to cheaper, cleaner electricity, the UK now has the potential to power 100 million LED bulbs at once”.

The perovskite solar cell market is projected to reach US$1.2 billion by 2033, underscoring the immense potential of QMUL research in shaping the future of solar energy.
