Budget 2017

22 November 2017

Commenting on the 2017 Budget, Chief Executive of the Russell Group Dr Tim Bradshaw said:

“If the Government is serious about building a country that is fit for the future then science has a crucial role to play. The big news for higher education came earlier this week with the welcome announcement of an additional £2.3bn in funding for research and development, extending previous commitments out to 2021-22.

“We are still waiting for full details of how this money will be used to support jobs and growth throughout the economy. As well as looking at business investment in research, we need ministers to take a long-term view and strengthen investment in basic research to deliver a sustainable pipeline of new ideas and talent for the UK.”
