Treasury Select Committee

16 October 2017

Commenting after the announcement of a new inquiry by the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee into student loans, Acting Director of the Russell Group Dr Tim Bradshaw said:

“We need a system of student finance that is fair for students, the taxpayer and for universities. The announcement of an increase in the student loan repayment threshold was a positive move that will help recent graduates.

"I have called previously for the interest rate attached to student loans to be looked at again and am pleased that this will be considered by the Committee. The fact that the impact of higher education on public finances will fall within the scope of the inquiry is also welcome. Universities make a substantial contribution to the economy and we need to recognise the importance of higher education to the UK.”
