University funding

03 October 2017

Commenting on Conservative Party conference announcements on university funding and student loan repayments, Dr. Tim Bradshaw, Acting Director of the Russell Group, said:

“The Government understands sustainable funding is at the heart of our world-class higher education system. Whether we are talking about the commercialisation of cutting edge research, or helping students get the skills they need to succeed in the economy, our universities have a vital role to play in building a UK that is fit for the future.

“The Government commitment to lifting the repayment threshold on student loans will send a positive signal to graduates entering the workforce.”

Chair of the Russell Group Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli added:

“We are committed to providing an outstanding teaching and learning experience to all of our students and that is why our 24 member universities have invested nearly £2 billion over the last five years in new teaching spaces, libraries, IT, sports and accommodation facilities. Maintaining the current funding system will help ensure investments such as these can continue and our universities can provide students with the high quality education they deserve.”
