Cardiff University

Cardiff University

Cardiff University is a capital city university: an anchor institution for Cardiff and Wales, embodying Welshness, embracing the Welsh language and proud of its heritage.

For over a century, Cardiff has championed a progressive spirit, pushed for change and demanded more. Today this spirit is needed more than ever, and it remains the beating heart of the university.

Cardiff brings people together to accomplish more than they could ever accomplish alone, from shaping its students’ lives to ground-breaking research discoveries that create lasting impact. Since its inception in 1883, Cardiff University has stood together for global progress, too. It provided school places for refugees through two World Wars, challenged apartheid in South Africa, and transformed social and economic outcomes for the people of Wales.

Its future direction is heavily shaped by its progressive history. It was the first Welsh university to admit women and the earliest chartered institution in the UK to employ women as professors.

Cardiff is one of the largest universities in the UK, with more than 350 courses, many consistently ranked in the top 5 and top 10 in the UK. With students from 130+ countries and 200+ partnerships around the world, its reach is truly global.
