PARTNERS programme supports disadvantaged students
The University of Newcastle’s PARTNERS programme ensures that students from disadvantaged backgrounds are supported once they have joined the university. This focuses on giving students opportunities to gain work experience and develop social capital by providing Careers Insights bursaries to support their work experience and career development. The programme also offers a range of bespoke events.
The university’s Careers Service and marketing and students recruitment teams have developed a successful partnership which supports PARTNERS students from pre-entry stage onwards, offering information, advice and guidance around career planning and employability.
The initiative has resulted in a year-on-year improvement in destinations outcomes for PARTNERS students, with a 10.7% increase in progression into highly skilled jobs shown in the last three years, rising from 61.2% in 2012-13, to 71.9% in 2014-15.
