Comment: Consult on enforcing new English free speech rules

After the Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Bill cleared the last hurdle in the House of Lords last week and became law, Russell Group Policy Manager Jamie Roberts writes for Times Higher Education setting out what will change for universities, ongoing practical concerns with the legislation that remain, and what is needed to get implementation of Act right.
Proper consultation is vital if we are to have a system of protection for free speech that is workable for universities and – most importantly – is clear and understandable for students, staff and visiting speakers.
