Horizon 2020 participation
29 June 2017
Commenting on the publication of new figures on UK participation in Horizon 2020, the EU’s research and innovation programme, Russell Group head of policy Jessica Cole said:
“These figures underline how important participation in EU-wide research programmes has been to UK science. UK universities lead the way in terms of the number of research participations and value of funding secured through the Horizon 2020 programme.
“Russell Group universities have done well out of programmes like Horizon 2020 because of the high quality of our research, but they are not working in isolation. Many projects have secured funding in partnership with institutions in other parts of Europe, and many of the excellent people who make this cutting-edge research possible come from across Europe and the world.
“The research links that have been established through Horizon 2020 benefit the EU and the UK. Our universities want to continue working as closely as they can with their European partners after Brexit and there would be no winners from new barriers to international collaboration.”
