Russell Group response to the Grant Review
20 July 2022
In response to the Independent review of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), led by Sir David Grant, published by BEIS today (20 July 2022), Dr Tim Bradshaw, Chief Executive of the Russell Group, said:
"The Grant Review is right to highlight the critical work UKRI does to maintain the UK’s position as a global research leader. As with the forthcoming review into research bureaucracy, it demonstrates the imperative for public funders of research to have efficient and effective processes and governance arrangements. This is vital as we look to research and innovation to power future growth and productivity and tackle major challenges such as cancer and climate change.
"It is positive to see UKRI is already making progress with plans for implementing simpler and more streamlined funding schemes. We look forward to working with UKRI, and others in the sector, to ensure the UK has the best possible environment in which world class research can thrive. UKRI plays a particularly key role in this as a principal funder of fundamental research and new research talent on which so many advances in applied research and innovation ultimately depend."
