Responding to the announcement made by PM Rishi Sunak at the UK's AI Summit, Dr Tim Bradshaw said:

“We are pleased to welcome the creation of the UK’s new AI Safety Institute. As internationally renowned research-intensive universities, our institutions play a key role in discovering and utilising emerging technologies such as AI, and whilst there are major benefits to be gained, it is hugely important to safeguard against risk as well.

“With eight out of the 12 AI centres for doctoral training based within Russell Group universities, we are proud to be supporting the UK’s AI advancement. Developing the necessary pipeline of skilled AI experts in the UK will be critical for the success of this new AI Safety Institute. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with international research partners and the Government as we discover and reap the benefits of AI safely.”
