Student immigration consultation

Commenting on the Home Secretary’s announcement of a consultation on student immigration, Director General of the Russell Group, Dr Wendy Piatt, said

“The Government is right to recognise our universities as world-leading centres of academic excellence.

“Our universities compete on the global stage so we welcome the Government’s commitment to help us attract the brightest and the best from around the world. It is essential that our immigration system takes a risk-based approach to support legitimate students who want to study here.

“We will contribute to the consultation announced by the Home Secretary to make sure reforms are designed to support our universities to retain their status as world-class assets for the UK.”
