Responding to the Government announcement on a new Tier 5 visa route supporting researchers coming to the UK, Russell Group Chief Executive, Dr Tim Bradshaw said:

“The new Tier 5 route launched by Government today will help the UK build collaborative research links around the world. This route, operated by UKRI, will support researchers, including technical experts, to come to UK research organisations for up to two years for work or training. It builds on a route already open to UK universities and will operate in parallel, providing consistency across the research sector.

“This is a positive step, but wider reform of the system is needed. UK Government should use our new relationship with the EU as an opportunity to develop a world-class immigration system that supports research, innovation and education and positions the UK as a global hub for talented academics.”
