Universities work to reduce Covid-19 transmission on campus
22 September 2020
Following the Prime Minister's comments on Covid-19 today, Chief Executive of the Russell Group Dr. Tim Bradshaw said:
“Russell Group universities are working hard to ensure campuses are safe environments for students, staff and their local communities, while continuing to provide high-quality teaching through a blend of online and carefully planned face to face learning. As the Prime Minister made clear, nothing is more important than the education, health and well-being of our young people and these measures will ensure they can continue to benefit from the university experience.
“Efforts to reduce transmission on campus and in the community include extensive cleaning and social distancing measures, creating student agreements on responsible behaviour, and developing plans to respond to positive cases. Alongside and in collaboration with the NHS's testing provision, our members are also taking a proactive approach to planning testing among their students, staff, and wider communities and we would urge the Government to ensure that sufficient local testing capacity is in place as students return.”
