Reducing bureaucracy in research, innovation and higher education

10 September 2020

In response to today's announcement from BEIS and DfE on reducing the bureaucratic burden in research, innovation and higher education, Dr Tim Bradshaw, Chief Executive of the Russell Group, said:

"Our universities want to focus their energies on providing the best experience for students with high-quality learning and ground breaking research that delivers real solutions to the problems facing our society.

"We welcome the Government’s intention to cut the amount of data it requires universities to collect, including plans to suspend random sampling by the Office for Students, and reduce the burden placed on researchers applying for funding. We look forward to working with the government and other bodies on the review into this area so universities can be freed up to invest in ideas and people rather than unnecessary bureaucracy."
