Russell Group responds to Government Higher Education announcement
17 July 2023
On Monday, 17 July, the Government made a series of announcements about the importance of quality in higher education and skills. Responding, Tim Bradshaw, Chief Executive of the Russell Group, said:
"Whilst we await the details of Government’s proposals, the decision to protect fees for foundation year courses such as medicine and engineering is an important one and we are glad the Government listened to our concerns to ensure these courses remain viable.
"Foundation years provide an important route for students, often from disadvantaged backgrounds into higher education which can open up opportunities and help them go on to high skilled jobs.
"We share the Government’s determination to ensure students receive the highest quality education and that is reflected by the high continuation rates, progression to skilled employment and future earnings for students of all backgrounds who study at Russell Group universities."
