Russell Group response to the 2021 Budget
03 March 2021
Responding to the Chancellor's 2021 Budget today, Dr Tim Bradshaw, Chief Executive of the Russell Group, said:
“It is positive to see the Government’s continued commitment to making the UK a scientific superpower in today’s Budget. We are pleased to see proposed visa reforms to make it easier to attract leading global talent in science and research to the country, as well as measures to boost productivity and promote innovation and commercialisation of research.
“However, today’s Budget does not provide any clarity on the source of funding for association to Horizon Europe, expected to be around £2bn a year, which may mean significant funds will need to be found from core R&D budgets. This is a missed opportunity to deliver a long-term boost to UK science and innovation that would galvanise the research sector and help drive vital economic growth.”
